 By Air:

Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (Gaborone): This is Botswana's primary international airport, located in Gaborone, the capital city. It serves as a major gateway for international travellers arriving in Botswana. Several airlines offer flights to Gaborone from various international destinations.

Kasane International Airport: Situated in the northern part of Botswana, near Chobe National Park, Kasane International Airport is another common entry point for tourists. It provides access to the stunning wildlife reserves in northern Botswana and serves as a convenient arrival point for those planning to explore the Chobe region.

Maun International Airport: Maun International Airport is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, one of Botswana's most popular tourist destinations. It receives both domestic and international flights, connecting tourists to the stunning wetlands and wildlife-rich areas of the Okavango Delta.

 By Road:

Border Crossings: Botswana shares land borders with several neighbouring countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. Tourists can enter Botswana by road through these border crossings, provided they have the necessary travel documents, including a valid passport and appropriate visas or permits.

Self-Drive: Many tourists choose to self-drive into Botswana from neighbouring countries. There are well-maintained road networks that connect Botswana with its neighbouring countries, allowing for easy access by car or hired vehicles. It's important to familiarize yourself with the border crossing procedures and have the required documents for both the vehicle and passengers.

 By Rail:

Francistown Railway Station: Botswana has rail connections with South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Francistown Railway Station, located in the eastern part of the country, serves as a major rail entry point. Tourists can take trains from neighbouring countries and disembark at Francistown to explore Botswana further.

Gaborone Railway Station: As the capital city, Gaborone also has a railway station that provides rail access to Botswana. It offers connections to neighbouring countries, including South Africa.

It's important to note that entry requirements, including visas and permits, may vary depending on your country of origin. It is advisable to check with the Botswana Embassy or consulate in your home country or visit the official website of the Botswana government's immigration department for the most up-to-date information regarding entry requirements.

Additionally, it's recommended to have travel insurance, necessary vaccinations, and any other required documents or permits when entering Botswana. It's always a good idea to plan and prepare in advance to ensure a smooth and hassle-free entry into the country.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE WHEN YOU ARE IN BOTSWANA

When exploring Botswana with a self-drive car, it is essential to prioritize safety. Here are some precautions to take both on and off the road:

On the Road:

  • Familiarize Yourself with Driving Laws: Before setting off, familiarize yourself with the local driving laws and regulations in Botswana. This includes adhering to speed limits, wearing seat belts, and obeying traffic signs.
  • Stay on Designated Roads: Stick to well-maintained and designated roads, as venturing off-road, can be dangerous and potentially harmful to the environment. Pay attention to any restrictions or guidance provided by the rental company.
  • Drive Defensively: Exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving. Be mindful of other road users, including pedestrians and animals that may cross the road unexpectedly. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles and adjust your speed to the prevailing road conditions.
  • Be Prepared for Wildlife Encounters: Botswana is renowned for its wildlife, and it's not uncommon to encounter animals near or on the roads. Drive at a reasonable speed and maintain a keen lookout for wildlife, especially during early mornings and late evenings. If you spot animals on or near the road, slow down or stop to allow them to pass.
  • Carry Essential Supplies: Ensure your vehicle is equipped with necessary supplies such as a spare tire, jack, toolkit, and extra water. It's also advisable to have a map, GPS device, or a reliable navigation app to help you navigate and stay on track.

 Off the Road:

  • Plan Your Itinerary: Plan your itinerary, including accommodations and attractions. Inform someone about your travel plans and estimated time of arrival at each destination. Stick to well-known campsites and accommodations to ensure safety and assistance if needed.
  • Respect Wildlife: When exploring nature reserves or national parks, always respect the wildlife and maintain a safe distance. Do not approach or feed wild animals, as this can be dangerous for both you and the animals. Follow park regulations and guidelines provided by rangers or park authorities.
  • Carry Sufficient Supplies: When venturing into remote areas, ensure you have ample food, water, and emergency supplies. It's also advisable to have a first-aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing for protection against the sun, insects, and changing weather conditions.
  • Inform Others of Your Plans: Let someone know about your off-road adventures and expected return time. This will ensure that someone can raise an alarm or seek help if you encounter any difficulties or are unable to return as planned.
  • Stay Hydrated and Protected: Botswana's climate can be hot and dry, so it's crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Additionally, protect yourself from the sun by wearing sunscreen, a hat, and lightweight, breathable clothing.

We provide a reliable car rental service in Gabon from Libreville, Libreville airport and Port Gentil. It is a shame we can’t claim that our Gabon car rental service in Gabon is affordable, like we do elsewhere in Africa. Renting a car in Gabon is not cheap by any definition. We think only Angola has higher vehicle rental prices than Gabon in all of Africa. A 4x4 with driver will set you back a whopping US$ 280-$320 per day, inclusive of driver, exclusive of fuel and on un-limited mileage basis. We offer self drive from both Libreville and Port Gentil but self drive 4x4 rentals happen to be even more expensive than with driver rentals in Gabon. We prefer to be upfront with Libreville Gabon car rental prices so that you can factor into your budget the high car rental prices before you firm up arrangements for travel to Gabon. However once you get to Libreville and drive out of the city you will appreciate why Gabon remains a very expensive travel destination. It is not surprising that some travel writers have referred to Gabon as the last Eden on earth. It really is and much more.

Going to Libreville Gabon or Port Gentil Gabon but need a rental car? Reserve a self drive 4x4 or chauffeur driven 4x4 now, pay a 20% commitment deposit using most major credit cards and pay the balance later on arrival to Libreville or Gabon when you pick up the self drive vehicle or meet up with your driver for the trip. Book and confirm your ideal car and leave the balance in your bank account. That is Habari Logistics’ Car Rental promise- always getting you cheaper and reliable car rental solutions across Africa.

If it is a truck that you are looking for to move merchandise and goods in Gabon, then we are also more than happy to oblige with truck hire options that match with your truck rental requirements. For rentals out of Libreville, road conditions are poor especially during the rainy season that lasts from October to December and February to May. We therefore recommend that you consider renting a 4WD vehicle during the rainy season months.

Gabon has an incredible 10% of the country designated as parkland with plenty of wildlife, rainforests, savannah, sandy white beaches, rivers, lakes and lush green countryside which will blow away even the most seasoned traveler to Africa. Gabon is simply unique and offers plenty of travel value to anybody who ventures to visit.

Some have called it ‘the last Eden on Earth,’ and once you’ve visited, you’re likely to agree.

Leave the capital city, the only real city in Gabon, and you’ll find yourself in a vast and largely undiscovered paradise of white sandy beaches, dense jungle, raging rivers, and pristine landscapes. There is plenty of oil money in Gabon and it will show in the number of newly tarmacked roads, restaurants, bustling night life and of course the prices of car rental which is usually a good indicator of oil economies in Africa. It may just explain why rental of a 4x4 in Luanda in Angola is US$570 per day on average.

Libreville is a busy city and when you visit be sure to visit the markets, the National Museum, the Presidential Palace, St Michael Cathedral, and the Musée des Arts et Traditions du Gabon. For a few days of relaxation, head over to the beach and get some RR, beach options include Ekwata Island beach etc. If you are in Gabon to trek the gorillas, then we recommend the habituated gorillas in Loango National Park. The gorilla trek can be booked through Loango Lodge which is the ideal accommodation or if you find Loango Lodge to be outside your budget then consider staying closeby in Liambisso or Omboue.  Loango National Park also hosts Iguela Lagoons, forest elephants and whales.

As another gorilla trekking option, you could go gorilla trekking in Moukalaba Doudou and Lope National Parks which are also habitats to the gorillas. Please note that gorilla trekking in Gabon is a totally different experience from say tracking gorillas in Rwanda, DRC or Uganda.

If you find gorilla trekking in Gabon an expensive affair then why not try gorilla trekking in either Rwanda or Uganda. We offer a gorilla permit service for both Uganda and Rwanda as well as 4x4 vehicles for hire on self drive basis and with drivers from both Entebbe airport Uganda and Kigali Airport Rwanda plus cross border rental between Uganda and Rwanda as well as one way rentals between Kigali and Entebbe.

Hire a car from us and drive your Gabon adventure.
